AbstractPope is an architect, energy simulator and building researcher. He has several suggestions for energy conservation and management in buildings. Everybody should work with numerical models of energy consumption, even if it is expensive. People should reduce as much energy consumption as they can before considering renewable energy technologies. An example would be to first ensure there are energy savings through thermal insulation before considering installing photovoltaic solar panels. If windows and walls are good insulators, the energy use of the building is reduced.
